Three Running Races Happening in June | Find Your Stride | Edinburgh Podiatrist

Introducing a new series of blog posts, we plan to highlight three upcoming running races each month that might be of interest to Edinburgh based runners. First up, the month of June, let's dive into the details of each event to give you a taste of what to expect.

Runner hitting the road
Racing is a great way to break up the solitude of running

Strathearn Marathon in Comrie, Perthshire on June 9th

First up, we have the Strathearn Marathon in Comrie, Perthshire on June 9th. This challenging race takes runners along quiet country roads in Perthshire, offering stunning scenery along the way. While the route is hilly, the toughest climbs are mostly done by the halfway point. However, the real test comes from the isolation once the field spreads out, leaving you to rely on mental strength over physical endurance. The friendly and encouraging marshals are there to support you through this tough course. Visit strathearnharriers.org.uk for more information.

The Whopper - 6 & 12 Hr Looped Trail Races in Keswick, Cumbria on June 15th

Next, we have The Whopper - 6 & 12 Hr Looped Trail Races in Keswick, Cumbria on June 15th. If you're considering a backyard ultra, this event could be a great introduction or a cautionary tale. Unlike a traditional backyard ultra where you keep looping until only one runner remains, this race has a set time limit of six or twelve hours. Each 6.7 km loop includes around 300m of ascent, so be sure to fuel up with the available vegan snacks provided by the environmentally conscious organisers. Check out greenermilesrunning.co.uk for registration and race details.

The Blaydon Race in Newcastle, Tyne and Wear on June 9th

Lastly, we have The Blaydon Race in Newcastle, Tyne and Wear on June 9th. This race is steeped in local history, following the route from Newcastle out to Blaydon that is famously depicted in a traditional song. The course runs along the River Tyne for approximately 9.4km, giving participants a taste of Geordie culture and dialect. Don't miss this unique opportunity to experience a true Geordie treat. Visit theblaydonrace.co.uk for race information and entry details.

These three races offer a variety of challenges and experiences for runners of all levels. Whether you're seeking a scenic marathon, a timed trail event, or a cultural race with a local twist, there's something for everyone in June. Stay tuned for more race recommendations.
